No dia 11 de outubro de 1928, o dirigível alemão Conde Zeppelin levantou voo para a primeira viagem aos Estados Unidos. A distância entre Frankfurt e Nova York foi percorrida em 112 horas.

O lendário dirigível LZ 127 Conde Zeppelin, tinha 236 metros de comprimento, capacidade de armazenar 105 mil metros cúbicos de gás, 5 motores e autonomia para 10 mil quilômetros de voo. Era um espetáculo visual por onde passavam. Sua primeira vinda ao Brasil foi em 22 de maio de 1930 quando chegou ao Recife e foi recebido por mais de 15 mil pessoas.
